With the Draft coming up this week a lot of teams are set on their draft boards of who they would like to take if there, and with my final Mock (which has no trades) let’s see how it goes. Here we go ….. “With the First pick of the 2017 NFL Draft the …..”
1. Cleveland Browns
The Selection: Myles Garrett, Defensive End, Texas A&M.
Done deal not buying this might take quarterback talk, Garrett is the pick.
Previous Pick: Myles Garrett, Defensive End, Texas A&M.
2. San Francisco 49ers
The Selection: Jamal Adams, Safety, LSU.
New GM John Lynch looks for a roving in the box safety who played like him to shore up the secondary position, and can’t pass on what some call the best player in this draft.
Previous Pick: Solomon Thomas, Defensive End, Stanford.
3. Chicago Bears
The Selection: Solomon Thomas, Defensive End, Stanford.
Needing help in the pass rush and the secondary the Bears decide to go for the sure thing pass rusher in Thomas and pass on the cornerback.
Previous Pick: Jamal Adams, Safety, LSU.
4. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Selection: Leonard Fournette, Running back, LSU.
The Jags need that bruiser running back that they haven’t had since MJD and they are thrilled that Fournette is still there for them.
Previous Pick: Leonard Fournette, Running back, LSU.
5. Tennessee Titans (From Rams)
The Selection: Marshon Lattimore, Cornerback, Ohio St.
Even after picking up Ryan and Cyprien in free agency to bolster the secondary they chose to release McCourty and look for a long term replacement and Lattimore is the perfect fit.
Previous Pick: Marshon Lattimore, Cornerback, Ohio St.
6. New York Jets
The Selection: Malik Hooker, Safety, Ohio St.
They are really hoping to trade down but if that doesn’t work out they will take the best player available at their biggest need safety and since Adams is gone that leaves Hooker.
Previous Pick: Jonathan Allen, Defensive Lineman, Alabama.
7. Los Angeles Chargers
The Selection: Jonathan Allen, Defensive Lineman, Alabama.
With the Gus Bradley defense coming to town the Chargers look to be moving to a 4-3 Seahawks style defense and will need another defensive lineman and why not grab the best one available.
Previous Pick: Malik Hooker, Safety, Ohio St.
8. Carolina Panthers
The Selection: Christian McCaffrey, Running back, Stanford.
With Fournette who the team like off the board they go with the same position and a guy they loved according to recent “reports” and give Cam another offensive weapon to help take the pressure off him.
Previous Pick: Derek Barnett, Defensive End, Tennessee.
9. Cincinnati Bengals
The Selection: Derek Barnett, Defensive End, Tennessee.
Earlier it was “reported” that the team was in love with Foster but I think with all of his off field issues that have occurred that they decide to add to the pass rush and take the next best one available.
Previous Pick: Reuben Foster, Linebacker, Alabama.
10. Buffalo Bills
The Selection: Mitchell Trubisky, Quarterback, North Carolina.
The Bills issues with Taylor are real and I think that they are thrilled that Trubisky is still here at 10 and that they will scoop him up and groom him to be there future starting quarterback.
Previous Pick: OJ Howard, Tight End, Alabama.
11. New Orleans Saints
The Selection: Reuben Foster, Linebacker, Alabama.
The Saints are in heaven with Howard and Foster sitting there for them to choose between, but their defense has been their killer the last few season so they choose to add to that side of the ball.
Previous Pick: Haason Reddick, Linebacker, Temple.
12. Cleveland Browns (From Eagles)
The Selection: Patrick Mahomes, Quarterback, Texas Tech.
The Brown also have a decision to make in due they take the best tight end in years to enter the draft in Howard or finally get their quarterback, and they choose to finally grab a leader for their offense and select Mahomes to be their quarterback of the future.
Previous Pick: Mitchell Trubisky, Quarterback, North Carolina.
13. Arizona Cardinals
The Selection: Mike Williams, Wide Receiver, Clemson.
After just missing out on the quarterback that they are supposedly in love with in Mahomes they instead decide to add weapons for their future quarterback with Fitz coming to the end of his career they grab the best receiver in the draft.
Previous Pick: Marlon Humphrey, Cornerback, Alabama.
14. Philadelphia Eagles (From Vikings)
The Selection: Quincy Wilson, Cornerback, Florida.
Even though they brought on Patrick Robinson cornerback is still a major need for them, although they could also look running back here but with McCaffrey gone they will take top corner on board.
Previous Pick: Christian McCaffrey, Running back, Stanford.
15. Indianapolis Colts
The Selection: OJ Howard, Tight End, Alabama.
Edge rusher is most likely their top need and even though they resigned Doyle they cannot pass up getting Luck another offensive weapon with the top tight end in years still on the board, and they grab him in a heartbeat.
Previous Pick: Dalvin Cook, Running back, Florida St.
16. Baltimore Ravens
The Selection: Haason Reddick, Linebacker, Temple.
The chose to bolster their defense and take a player who has been shooting up the draft boards and use him as a 3-4 edge rusher in their defense, and immediately upgrade their front 7.
Previous Pick: John Ross, Wide Receiver, Washington.
17. Washington Redskins
The Selection: Charles Harris, Defensive End, Missouri.
A major need is defensive end and with Barnett and Allen gone they will take the next best player available and be thrilled to get him.
Previous Pick: Malik McDowell Defensive Lineman, Michigan St.
18. Tennessee Titans
The Selection: Corey Davis, Wide Receiver, Western Michigan.
Choosing to get a top receiver for Mariota they pass on the smaller quicker Ross for a pure number 1 receiver and select Davis as their second 1st round pick.
Previous Pick: Corey Davis, Wide Receiver, Western Michigan.
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Selection: Dalvin Cook, Running back, Florida St.
Numerous Mocks have the Bucs selecting Cook and I think that there is too much question marks with Martin that if Cook is available here he will be the selection. But they do have safety, defensive end, wide receiver, corner needs that could be addresses as well. Still though I think Cook is the pick if he is still available.
Previous Pick: Obi Melifonwu, Safety, Connecticut.
20. Denver Broncos
The Selection: Ryan Ramczyk, Tackle, Wisconsin.
The Broncos brought in tackle Watson and guard Leary in free agency but still need to continue to overhaul their offensive line and getting possibly the top tackle and first offensive lineman on the board would be a needed upgrade.
Previous Pick: David Njoku, Tight End, Miami.
21. Detroit Lions
The Selection: David Njoku, Tight End, Miami.
They took a shot on Ebron in 2014 but have not been that impressed with his production or inability to stay healthy and although they may have other needs they just can’t pass up the talent and ability of Njoku.
Previous Pick: Zach Cunningham, Linebacker, Vanderbilt.
22. Miami Dolphins
The Selection: Forrest Lamp, Guard, Western Kentucky.
After trading away Albert and moving Tunsil to tackle they are in need of a guard and some believe that Lamp is the best guard in this draft, so they will run to the podium and make this selection very easily.
Previous Pick: Taco Charlton, Defensive End, Michigan.
23. New York Giants
The Selection: Garett Bolles, Tackle, Utah.
Speculation is that the Giants are not happy with Flowers production and that he could be replaced but I am thinking that he will be moved to the right side and that Bolles will be brought in to be the new left tackle.
Previous Pick: Garett Bolles, Tackle, Utah.
24. Oakland Raiders
The Selection: Jarred Davis, Linebacker, Florida.
After losing linebacker Smith in free agency they have basically no one to play the middle of the field and will look to grab a young athletic linebacker and Davis is the perfect fit for them.
Previous Pick: Quincy Wilson, Corner back, Florida.
25. Houston Texans
The Selection: Marlon Humphrey, Cornerback, Alabama.
They decide to pass on a quarterback here and bolster the defense after losing Bouye in free agency another aggressive corner is needed and Humphrey fits that mold perfectly.
Previous Pick: Deshaun Watson, Quarterback, Clemson.
26. Seattle Seahawks
The Selection: Cam Robinson, Tackle, Alabama.
After having one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL last season they decide they need to protect Wilson and bring in the best tackle on the board, and even though they brought in some offensive line help in free agency Robinson is too hard to pass up.
Previous Pick: Cam Robinson, Tackle, Alabama.
27. Kansas City Chiefs
The Selection: Kevin King, Corner back, Washington.
The Chiefs would like a corner to pair with cornerback sensation from 2 season ago Peters and basically have nothing next to him, so King who is rising up boards would be a perfect fit for them.
Previous Pick: Gareon Conley, Corner back, Ohio St.
28. Dallas Cowboys
The Selection: Adoree Jackson, Cornerback, USC.
They look to restore their secondary after losing 3 players who started substantial amount of games last season and like Jackson’s ability to play corner and be a returner.
Previous Pick: Ryan Ramczyk, Tackle, Wisconsin.
29. Green Bay Packers
The Selection: Chidobe Awuzie, Cornerback, Colorado.
They look to rebuild their corners after letting Hayward leave in free agency prior to last season and watching him lead the NFL in interceptions. Looking for him to be the larger corner on the team and be aggressive like the rest of the Packers secondary.
Previous Pick: Forrest Lamp, Guard, Western Kentucky.
30. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Selection: Jabril Peppers, Safety, Michigan.
Even though he had a diluted drug test recently they see enough in him to make him the pick and love his versatility and will intend to use him all over the field on defense.
Previous Pick: Takkarist McKinley, Defensive End/OLB, UCLA.
31. Atlanta Falcons
The Selection: Taco Charlton, Defensive End, Michigan.
Their biggest need which was obvious during the Super Bowl loss to the Patriots was being able to get to Brady, and they chose to grab an edge rusher to go with Beasley and immediately give them another pass rusher to apply pressure to the quarterbacks.
Previous Pick: Charles Harris, Defensive End, Missouri.
32. New Orleans Saints (From Patriots)
The Selection: DeShaun Watson, Quarterback, Clemson.
They grabbed their corner of need with their first pick and now at kind of a shock cant pass up on Watson as an eventual replacement for Brees whenever he decides to retire, and that gives Watson a few years to learn under Brees much like Rodgers with Favre.
Previous Pick: Tre’Davious White, Cornerback, LSU.
This is my final mock draft so give me your thought on picks on whether you agree or disagree let me know.
